Jack the Ripper Whitechapel Tour for Year 10 History Students

Londres sur les traces de Jack the Ripper (2)Year 10 History pupils had a fantastic opportunity to go on a guided walking tour in Whitechapel this month as part of their GCSE course of study.

Their Crime and Punishment paper focuses on a case study of Whitechapel as a poverty-stricken historic environment in the late nineteenth century where the notorious Jack the Ripper murders caused panic and concern.

Here is what a few of the year 10 pupils wrote:

Awele noted: ‘The trip was very informative and it gave me a very detailed insight on Jack the Ripper. The fact that [the tour guide] showed real photos of the victims made it quite exciting. … The tour guide was very nice, her facial expressions and gestures made the tour more thrilling and amazing!’

For Najma, the tour trip was also ‘very informative. We saw some of the buildings that were there at the time of the murders. This helped me visualise the kind of environment people were living in. Also the tour guide was very nice as he answered all of our questions.’

Feyi ‘found the trip educational and entertaining. Our tour guide explained all five deaths in detail which was captivating to us. She took us around Whitechapel and the tour was great.’

Pupils were shown images relating to the historic Whitechapel and the murders, visited key locations related to them, and listened to theories about Jack the Ripper’s identity. They represented the Academy very well, and it was great to go beyond the classroom to experience a different kind of History learning!
