Students celebrate GCSE success

Students celebrated some exceptional GCSE grades when they opened their results on 21 August 2014.

Results 2014 Elizabeth (1)

Top-performing student Elizabeth (pictured left with her father) admitted to being “shocked” by her results: 10A*, 2A and 1 Distinction. She says the secret to her success was her teachers and her parents, and is looking forward to studying Geography, Maths, Further Maths and Chemistry at A Level.

Daisy achieved 5 A*, 7A and 1 Distinction and will study Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and Maths. Her advice for future students: “It’s better to be organised from the beginning, but if you do need to catch up – just get on with it!”

Fatima achieved 1A*, 9A, 1B and 2 Distinctions and plans to study Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Psychology. Her advice is to “work hard from the beginning, don’t get distracted and learn to relax”, though she admits that in reality she was “really stressed out”!

Star students Vy, Elizabeth, Adaeze, Ashleigh and Holly, who between them achieved 48 A* or A GCSE grades.

In the first year of our Italian GCSE course, 87.5% of students achieved grades A*-C. From September, students will also be offered Latin GCSE too.

Year 10 prospects promising

Prospects for next year’s GCSE results look promising too, with many students having already achieved A and B grades in GCSEs including Science, Art, Music and IT.

Avril Bendu, for example, already has a good clutch of GCSEs including Science (A), Spanish (A*), Italian (A*) and Business Studies (A). Most Year 10 students already have at least two GCSEs at grade C or above, even before they sit most of their exams in 2015.

A Level success

A Level students also did well with 88% of grades achieved being between A*-C. Valerie Agbawe, for example, achieved A*, A and B for Sociology, English Literature and Psychology.

“I definitely worked and revised hard but I was still very pleased to get such good grades,” said Valerie. “It was really good at sixth form here and I’m looking forward to studying Sociology at Goldsmiths next year.” The average A Level grade achieved across all subjects was a very creditable B.
