A Letter to Parents from Jane Fletcher, Principal
Dear Parent
I am writing to advise you that, after eight years at Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich, I shall be leaving over the summer period to take up employment elsewhere.
I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the staff, students and parents at Harris Girls’ and together we have seen some tremendous things happening at the academy. What is most important is that we have seen our young people thrive and succeed and the individual stories of so very many young people, some of whom have overcome great adversity to succeed, are what keep the staff body here passionate about what they do on a daily basis. Those stories can be represented by a set of numbers:
- ONE – the Ofsted grading we have – Outstanding in all categories
- ONE – we are in the top 1% of schools for the progress our students made in 2015
- THREE - we have been in the top 3% for pupil progress for the past five years consecutively
- TWENTY – we are the twentieth top school in the whole country for student progress based upon 2015 results
- ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY TWO – the number of staff here, all of whom play a part in the provision we make and the outcomes our young people gain
- ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY – the number of young people we work with in each year group, all of whom show the passion and determination to learn and succeed which gains them these outcomes
It has been a genuine pleasure and real privilege to work with your children – I can’t think of a better community of students and staff to work with. We know that success is not all about exam results and our website gives you a feel for the many additional things the Academy offers to give students a full and rich curriculum experience, along with the pastoral support which is so beneficial to so many.
The Federation has already been successful in replacing my post as Principal and I can confirm that Ms Carrie Senior will be taking over in this role.
Sir Daniel Moynihan, Chief Executive of the Harris Federation would like this message passed on to parents:
“As you will have read in her letter, after nearly a decade as Principal of HGAED, Mrs Fletcher has decided to move to a new role. I wanted to pay tribute to Mrs Fletcher, a long-serving Principal who has led the creation of a happy and successful Academy.
Mrs Fletcher’s role will involve overseeing a number of Academies and I am sure you will want to join me in wishing her the very best for this new challenge.
I am delighted to say we have appointed a first-rate successor to Mrs Fletcher, following a national recruitment exercise. The new Principal, Ms Carrie Senior, has been Vice Principal of Harris Academy Greenwich since 2012. This is an outstanding, oversubscribed and very popular secondary school and Ms Senior has been instrumental to its success.
Ms Senior has taught in London schools throughout her career and has been in leadership roles since 2007. Before qualifying as a History teacher, she spent two and a half years as a teaching assistant in an international school in Mozambique. She has a degree in Modern History from Oxford University.
Because she currently works at another Harris Academy, Ms Senior is already known to some of the staff at HGAED. I know how much she is looking forward to taking up the post of Principal and working with students, parents, staff and governors to enhance the success of the school.”
Ms Senior will be joining the staff team at Harris Girls’ with effect from Monday 6th June. The transition to her leadership of the Academy will take place during the course of next half-term and she will start her leadership here from Monday 20th June.
I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the staff and students whom I’ve had the genuine pleasure to work with at Harris Girls’. Staff here are highly professional, committed and dedicated to what they do; they work incredibly hard and absolutely never give up on any student – until the day a young person leaves, they never ever stop believing in them. The relationships formed between students and staff are exceptional and are what makes this Academy so very successful. Students here are vibrant, lively and bubbly; they are passionate and aspirational and they trust their teachers to help them to do the best they can.
Thank you for supporting this Academy; working in partnership with parents is so very important. I wish each of your daughters every success with their ongoing education and thank you for trusting us with your daughters’ education over the past eight years.
Yours Sincerely
Jane Fletcher
Principal
