Green Celebration Marks Opening of Peace Garden and Solar Panel Project

Students, staff and special guests came together to celebrate the official opening of our new Peace Garden and solar panel project.

The event welcomed delegates from SE24, representatives from Southwark Council and members of our governing body. The solar panel project was made possible through generous funding from SE24, while our biodiversity garden was funded by the Southwark Biodiversity Fund, helping to create a greener and more sustainable environment for our school community.

A highlight of the afternoon was a confident and inspiring speech from student Agatha, who spoke passionately about the importance of environmental responsibility and the positive impact these projects will have on students for years to come.

Guests also heard from Councillor Waldron Day, who praised the school's commitment to sustainability and community engagement. Mark Hughes from SE24 delivered an informative presentation about the organisation's background and mission, explaining how community-led energy initiatives can support local schools while contributing to a more sustainable future.

The new Peace Garden provides a tranquil space for reflection and wellbeing for students to enjoy at break and lunchtime. Our newly installed five star bug hotel will encourage wildlife and enhance environmental learning opportunities across the curriculum. Together with the installation of the solar panels, these projects represent a significant investment in both our students and the environment.
