Tag rugby success for academy students

Seven girls from Harris Girls' Academy East Dulwich were selected to represent the Southwark Tag Rugby squad at the London Youth Games at Crystal Palace last weekend.

During a weekend of great sporting triumphs, Team Southwark secured a top ten result. The team finished in ninth place overall (out of 33 boroughs), six places higher than last year.

The girls showed excellent sportsmanship throughout the day and were a credit to the school demonstrating an excellent standard of behaviour. Miss Finegan said she was 'extremely proud of every girl who had been selected’ and was ‘amazed at the skill level and dedication of each of the squad members who performed to the best of their ability in very warm conditions’.

Sports Development Officer Nicola Donnelly also remarked: ‘the girls were a joy to meet and watch perform their talent enthusiastically’. The Head of Sport and Fitness Miss Panyandee supported on the day as well and commented that ‘although the girls were relatively inexperienced, they played very well showing great commitment’.

Deztinie was given captaincy for the day, Princess won ‘player of the tournament’, while Sanatha also received ‘most improved player’.
