Holocaust survivors meet students

Monday 23 June

Students at the Academy were lucky enough to hear real life stories today from two people who survived the Holocaust, writes Nicole Pelletier.

Peter and Marianne shared their testimonies about what their lives were like growing up in the 1930s and 40s.

The students at the academy were interested and grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity. Both survivors managed to escape Germany and re-locate to Britain whilst most of their family members perished due to the prejudices and restrictions they faced every day during the Nazi regime in Germany.

They both related the message to students that they are lucky to have survived and how their lives could have been very different. They stressed that we should never judge anyone for their beliefs or the way they look. The students found their testimonies interesting and most walked to the front of the room when the talk was over to thank them for visiting our academy.

This opportunity was made possible through the HET (holocaust educational trust).
