Students Present Sports Assemblies to Whole School

Sports assembly 2Before half term, seven brave students presented sports assemblies to students across all the houses at Harris Girls’ Academy.

The assemblies were created and led by our student sports leaders, who either have scholarships for a particular sport or are ambassadors for a sports club. The girls were very nervous at the beginning of the week, however after lots of practise they were experts in public speaking by the end of the week.

Federation sports day

Students delivered information about the Federation Sports Day at Crystal Palace this July and information on how to get involved with sports trials for the event, including throwing, jumping and running.

Sporting highlights of the year were announced including inter-house sports competitions and successful sporting trips. They also presented information to each house about new clubs starting this term including football on Tuesdays and the opportunity to advertise existing clubs such as rugby, cheerleading and athletics, to gain more interest from the student body.

Hard work and enthusiasm

Coach Spike, who trains our Year 9 and 10 girls at rugby club, came in to speak about his club and his links with his external club called Old Alleynian; which some of our students now play for outside of school. He spoke about the importance and representation of women in rugby and persuaded students to join his club as new players.

The assemblies were a great success and a fantastic way to deliver key sports news to the whole school.

Thank you to the following girls for their hard work, commitment and enthusiasm to Sports and Fitness: Jade, Esther, Eden, Emma, Lola, Sonique and Phoebe.
