PHSE Presentation for Years 10-13 - Letter to Parents

Dear Parent / Carer,

On Tuesday 18th April we have a charity presenting to all of our year 10-13 students to raise awareness of the help and support that is available for young people to deal with the pressures of everyday life; academic, social media and general adolescent issues.

The charity is run by a group of four parents in one of our local boroughs, all of whom sadly lost their sons to suicide last academic year.  These parents have since come together to raise awareness of this devastating problem whilst promoting the support mechanisms available to individuals.

The presentation is really personable and informative, yet gets a strong message across, in a positive light. The message is that there is support available. The assembly emphasises that no one should try to struggle through challenging and difficult times alone.

We appreciate that some students may find this topic upsetting, so we will ensure we have our Educational Welfare Officer, pastoral staff and our Safeguarding Lead staff member present.  In addition, our school counsellor will be on site should any individual need her.

We believe this opportunity will positively raise awareness of the range of support mechanisms we have in place within the Academy, and ensure that your daughter is aware of support that can be accessed and locally within our borough/neighbouring boroughs.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. My school email address is g.jones@harrisdulwichgirls.org.uk

Kind Regards

Ms G Jones
