GCSE Success at Harris Girls' Academy East Dulwich

Harris Girls Etta and Allanna 2018 (2) croppedHarris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich is incredibly proud of the GCSE exam results achieved by our students in 2017-18. Find out about our impressive A Level results too.

At GCSE, we are confident we will achieve a Progress 8 score in line with 2016-17 incredible +0.83, meaning our girls achieved on average nearly a whole GCSE grade better than students of similar ability in schools nationally.

73% of students achieved 5 grades including English and Maths at Grade 4+ – a strong performance given the new, more challenging curriculum. Students now study more challenging subjects, coursework has been scrapped in all but the creative subjects and there is a greater emphasis on recall of content and problem solving across the entire subject range.

54% of students achieved 5 grades including English and Maths at Grade 5+. 26% of students achieved a 7+ in English Literature (compared to 19.4% nationally).

47% achieved the English Baccalaureate, which measures achievement in the core academic subjects. This is well above the national average. Our students are encouraged to take a broad and academic curriculum with all our students having the opportunity to study a humanities subject.

The average grade achieved by our students in 2017-18 was a very creditable grade 5. In science, more than a quarter of the girls who took ‘triple’ science (biology, chemistry and physics) achieved an Grade 9 (compared to 12% nationally).  70% of students studying Psychology achieved a Grade 7+.

Notable individual succeses included Etta and Alanna (pictured above).

  • Etta: Biology 9, Chemistry 9, Citizenship Studies 9, English Language 9, English Literature 9, Geography 9, Mathematics 8, Physics 8, Spanish 9, Portuguese A*, Latin A*.
  • Alanna: Grade 9 in English Language, English Literature, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Spanish and an 8 in Geography.

"I’d like to congratulate each of our Year 11 students on their fantastic results," said Principal Carrie Senior. "It is a privilege to lead a school with such outstanding and committed staff and such hard working and determined students. Our students have been working with real commitment to prepare for these very important exams and it is great to see that work has paid off. Well done all at HGAED!”
