Instrumental Lessons - For Every Student

We are very proud that, at HGAED, all pupils can learn a musical instrument throughout their time here – from Year 7 right through to Year 13.

In Year 7 every pupil chooses an instrument to learn to play for the whole academic year – FREE! And they can continue right up until they leave the academy, if they choose to continue.

We have specialist teachers that come into teach our pupils in small groups, where they will be taught how to navigate and play a selection of instruments – violin, cello, acoustic guitar, steel pans, drum kit and piano/keyboard. A new flute lunch time club will begin shortly too.

Pupils can access the practice rooms every day, before and after school and at break and lunch times too. The department is always full of music as pupils come in to hone their skills.

As a department we encourage pupils to use their tenacity and resilience to ‘master’ their chosen instrument with hopes that as they make rapid and sustained progress they eventually will be sufficiently prepared to take ‘Graded theory and practical’ music exams.
