HGAED Students Secure Places at Top Universities
Academy sees first student head to Oxford University, as students at Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich celebrate their A Level results today.
The Academy has once again secured an excellent set of results. Across Harris East Dulwich Sixth Form, there were 37 A* and A grades whilst an incredible 14 students achieved A*/A across Maths, Chemistry and Biology – some of the most academically challenging A levels.
Amongst those celebrating today is Vincent (pictured below) who achieved impressive A*A*A grades – an outstanding set of grades that will set him up for success as he goes to University College London to read Politics and International Relations. Vincent attended Harris Boys’ Academy East Dulwich as a lower school student and joined Harris Girls’ Academy Sixth Form in Year 12.
Vincent is heading to University College London to read Politics and International Relations.
Jannah (pictured below) also achieved A*A*A and, while Russell Group offers await, she will take up a fully funded degree apprenticeship with Amazon. This is a hugely competitive degree apprenticeship and very well deserved. Jannah joined the Academy in Year 7 and has consistently been an exceptional student.
The Academy’s vocational students also excelled. One student, Aisha, achieved top Distinction* grades in Health and Social Care and a Distinction in Business. She is now going to study Diagnostic Radiography at City St George’s University. Zaynab continues her studies to become a nurse at the University of Greenwich whilst Rahima pursues her dream to become a midwife and will study at City St George’s University. Also entering health care is Tamilore who will study Occupational Therapy at South Bank University.
Law remains a popular degree choice with our students and the Academy sees a number of students heading to top universities, including Isaiah who secured top grades and will read Law at the University of Nottingham.
Margot heads to Wadham College, Oxford
One student makes history today as the Academy’s first-ever student to go to the University of Oxford. Margot Henderson is set to go to Wadham College, Oxford University to study Art History.
With a deep appreciation and love of art, Margot has embraced every opportunity to get involved in art and has worked with local artists at the Peckham Art Festival. Her teachers always believed she was good enough but it took Margot a little longer to realise just how talented she was and how much she deserved a place at university.
“I still can’t believe I have secured a place at Oxford University," said Margot. "I always wanted to go to university but never thought Oxford was right for me. But the programmes offered by my school helped me get a better understanding of the university and my teachers supported me through the application process.
“Being the first student from Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich to go to Oxford is a real privilege. We have so many hard-working and talented students here that I can’t believe I am first one to go. I really hope more opportunities are given to kids from schools like mine, and that they understand they can get to institutions like this.
“I am so looking forward to getting to Oxford. My first stop is definitely going to be the Bodleian Library – it’s such a fantastic place and I feel so fortunate that I have the opportunity to go there and explore everything it has to offer.”
"Incredibly proud"
Jo Young, Principal of the Academy, said: “We are incredibly proud of all our Year 13 leavers receiving results today and share their excitement as they prepare for top destinations. Thank you to all the exceptional teachers and support staff who have prepared our students so well for examination success and their next steps. All students should be proud of their achievements and excited to start the next chapter – they will be missed!
“We wish all our year 13s success with their next steps and are proud of everything they have achieved. They are an inspiration to our current students and we cannot wait to welcome them back to the academy as HGAED Alumni.”
