Feeling Safe & Getting Support

This page is all about feeling safe and knowing where to get support when you need it. You'll learn about our pastoral system and your "coaching group".

We have four houses (Imperial, Kings, Manchester and Oriel) and you will be assigned one of these houses before the Summer break. You will be in the same coaching group that meets each day for your entire time at HGAED and this group and your “coach” is the first layer of pastoral support. These groups are led by the Head of House and there is also an Assistant Principal attached to each house.

Meet Ms Robson, Vice Principal

Meet Ms Thompson, Year Coach

Thompson 1Hi, soon to be Year 7s! I hope you are all excited to start your secondary school journey!

I am Ms Thompson. I am a Geography Teacher (as shown by my love for standing on or near volcanoes - see picture!) and I am also a current Year 10 coach.

Your coaching group is made up of other Year 7s who may not be in your class sets. This is a great way to meet friends and help support one another in your start at secondary school.

You will see your coaching group, and your coach, every day! The great thing about this is that you build a comfortable and familiar community in your coaching group, and it acts as an opportunity to catch up with your coach if there is anything you need.

In coaching, you also learn about many different topics that help you understand more about the physical world around you, the rights of the people around us, and our responsibility to both.

See you all soon! Ms Thompson
