National Handball Finalists

Our U13s and U15s handball teams got to the Handball National Finals on Saturday, both unfortunately losing in the finals.

But both teams can proudly call themselves national runners-up – an astonishing achievement in their first season, which also saw them win the Inter Borough London Cup and come second in the London Youth Games.

Bintu Freeman was awarded U13 best player of the tournament. Three of our students (Bintu, Billie Walker and Deztanie Edwards) have been selected to train with England on the strength of their performances.

Coach, PC Marcus Kudliskis, who only started the teams this season, tells the full story below.

Report from coach PC Marcus Kudliskis:

The U13s were drawn against Ark Academy, Cardinal Griffen, Blacon High School and Lymm High School in the group stages with the top two going through to the final. The U13s beat every team convincingly, lining up a final against Lymm High School - The bulldogs unfortunately lost the final 3-1.

The U15s were drawn against Cardinal Griffen and Parrswood School in the group stages with the top two going into the semi finals. The bulldogs drew both games, but went through to the semi-finals on goal difference facing our arch enemies Barking Abbey, who best the bulldogs last week in the LYG finals.

The Bulldogs beat Barking Abbey 1-0, setting up a final against Parrswood school. The bulldogs unfortunately lost the final 3-0.

Both teams played absolutely fantastically, albeit against a tight fixture schedule......the bulldogs just simply ran out of steam in the final!

This is still a massive achievement for both teams and the U13s and U15s can be proud to say that they are the 2nd best team in the country at both age groups

Bintu FREEMAN claimed the U13 best player of the tournament award and Bintu along with Billie WALKER and Deztanie EDWARDS have been selected to train with England.

Thank you to all the staff that attended the finals to support, it was greatly appreciated.

A massive thank you must go out to Eddie Wilcox who has supported the team at both training and fixtures. Without his help many of the fixtures would not have gone ahead.

A HUGE thank you to Kirsty, Tammie and Clare from the PE department for also supporting the team throughout the season too.

Roll on next season where I'm sure the bulldogs will give it their best shot to become National Champions
