Year 10 and Year 12 Update
19th June 2020
It’s been a wonderful week at HGAED as we have welcomed back many of our year 10 and 12 pupils for their inductions before face to face contact sessions begin next week. It was lovely to see our pupils again and to hear of their experiences during lockdown-and to hear so many of them admit that they’d missed school and even their teachers!
We know that this period continues to be an incredibly stressful one for our community and I’m proud of how our community has worked together during this period. We’ve been able to distribute food parcels and free school meal vouchers, have made over 5000 welfare calls and dozens of home visits and have offered lots of support online via Edmodo and Teams in the form of assemblies, mental health tips and advice and guided relaxation. Do make sure that your child is accessing these materials, as well as the remote learning. It’s incredibly important that all our pupils continue to work hard at home, and most importantly, reach out to their teachers or other staff if they are struggling with the work set. We are all here to help.
We have received many queries from pupils and parents about exams next year, about catching up the missed learning time and support during next academic year. I’m sure you’ll appreciate that government guidance changes daily, and at this stage, we do not know what September will look like, other than to say that Year 11 and 13 (your children) will be the absolute priority for returning to school. The academy is preparing a programme of tuition for the summer holiday period, which will continue in the following terms, and Heads of Department are already reviewing their teaching plans for September so that we can ensure that our pupils have the best possible learning experiences in preparation for GCSE and A level exams next summer. Ofqual have not yet published any information about how next year’s exams will work. We’ll of course write to you as soon as we have any updates.
We appreciate your continued support and patience at the current time.
