A great article to think about the culture in schools that you visit-either as a prospective parent, pupil or member of staff https://t.co/ggNsgo4VLA

Open days-We’d advise asking about staff retention and experience and how both pupil and staff wellbeing are supported. It’s great staff, working in partnership with families, that help create great schools. We’re incredibly proud of ours 😊

Exam Results and Performance

Harris Girls Etta and Allanna 2018 (2) croppedSee details of our 2019 results. The information below is from 2018 and will be updated shortly.

Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich is incredibly proud of the GCSE, A Level and vocational exam results achieved by our students in 2017-18.

Our Progress 8 score of 0.79 means we are in the top 4% of schools in England. View our Department for Education performance information.

73% of students achieved 5 grades including English and Maths at Grade 4+ – a strong performance given the new, more challenging curriculum. Students now study more challenging subjects, coursework has been scrapped in all but the creative subjects and there is a greater emphasis on recall of content and problem solving across the entire subject range.

54% of students achieved 5 grades including English and Maths at Grade 5+. 26% of students achieved a 7+ in English Literature (compared to 19.4% nationally).

47% achieved the English Baccalaureate, which measures achievement in the core academic subjects. This is well above the national average. Our students are encouraged to take a broad and academic curriculum with all our students having the opportunity to study a humanities subject.

The average grade achieved by our students in 2017-18 was a very creditable grade 5. In science, more than a quarter of the girls who took ‘triple’ science (biology, chemistry and physics) achieved an Grade 9 (compared to 12% nationally).  70% of students studying Psychology achieved a Grade 7+.

A Level results

In A level 33% of students achieved A*-B grades and our pass rate maintained at 97%.  Students with a target grade C out-performed by a grade, successfully achieving a grade B in their subjects.

In the vocational qualifications the average grade achieved by students was at Distinction level, in the newly reformed and demanding Cambridge Technical qualifications.

Overall the results show that high outcomes have been maintained with the reformed A Levels and vocational qualifications.

100% of our students have gone on to further education or training with 91% taking up places at university this Autumn of which 93% are attending their first choice place, in a wide range of courses. 17% of students are attending a Russell Group University which is considerably higher than the national average.  Students are studying courses as diverse as neuroscience, law, architecture, veterinary science, medicine, and criminology.

GCSE notable successes

Notable individual succeses included Etta and Alanna (pictured above).

  • Etta: Biology 9, Chemistry 9, Citizenship Studies 9, English Language 9, English Literature 9, Geography 9, Mathematics 8, Physics 8, Spanish 9, Portuguese A*, Latin A*.
  • Alanna: Grade 9 in English Language, English Literature, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Spanish and an 8 in Geography.

"I’d like to congratulate each of our Year 11 students on their fantastic results," said Principal Carrie Senior. "It is a privilege to lead a school with such outstanding and committed staff and such hard working and determined students. Our students have been working with real commitment to prepare for these very important exams and it is great to see that work has paid off. Well done all at HGAED!”
